Riding for a cause
Sunday 27th Apr 2025This year I will be joining in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride to raise funds and awareness for two causes that are quite close to my heart. Prostate cancer and men's mental health, two issues faced by an ever increasing number. Everyone knows someone who either is or has struggled with their mental health and breaking the stigmas associated with these issues is something I believe to be very important to the wider communities health going forward. Prostate cancer of course being something that has also had a profound effect on me after having my grandfather survive it, as well as a few other forms of cancer afterwards and all the trials and tribulations that came with being a survivor of such a vicious disease.
My grandfather was in his very own right a Distinguished Gentleman and incredible role model for me throughout my life. He spurred and supported my love for motorcycles, letting me play on, work on and ride with him as a pillion on the back of his collection of vintage British bikes. Most memorably his collection of Nortons, of which I've now inherited the same bike I grew up on- a 99 Dominator, as well as one of his last projects- a 650SS which I will be riding this year.
So I suppose in more ways than one I have my Gramps to thank for my involvement in the ride, bittersweet as it may be to ride his bike for a cause so close to him.
